Environmentally Friendly Automotive Paint

Updated: Mar 4, 2024

Over the years there have been many changes in the manufacturing of automotive paints. However, all of the paints remained chemical-based, formulas that were harmful to the environment, and paint shop employees had to use the stuff. Of course, times have changed and fortunately, concern for both the environment and the safety of paint shop employees has encouraged the manufacturing of waterborne paints.

Solvent-borne paints and bases, which we used to use, included chemical compounds that released high levels of Volatile Organic Compounds, or VOCs. Now, waterborne paints and coatings use water as the main solvent – a process that greatly decreases the VOCs in the paint.

Today’s waterborne coatings meet high industry standards while still providing the same coverage and colour-matching as solvent-borne coatings and that’s why Newmarket Auto Body uses only waterborne paints in our new state-of-the-art paint facility. This gives our customers the same great paint jobs they’ve come to expect while helping the environment.
